GLENN JESSE FORD II
DEPUTY CLERK'S SON KILLED
WAYNE - Mrs Geneva Ford, Deputy Clerk for the City of Wayne, was officially notified Friday, of the death of her son, First Lieutenant Glenn J. Ford, 24, a Marine helicopter pilot in Viet Nam.
Lt Ford had been listed as missing since January 1969, along with 3 members of his crew and a passenger.
The five had been on a routine courier flight, despite bad flying weather, when radio contact trouble was reported by the pilot. The flight was continued by instrument when the trouble seemed to be corrected, according to reports to Ms. Ford.
Radio contact was again lost when the helicopter was in the landing approach pattern for Marble Mountain, near DaNang. The helicopter over flew the base and out of radar range.
The helicopter was found inland last month with no sign of damage or injuries. It is assumed that the pilot and crew had been uninjured and walked away until capture by the Viet Cong.
Lt Ford attended Wayne schools, and after graduation, attended the General Motors Institute and Henry Ford Junior College before his enlistment in the Marine Corps in January 1996.
He underwent flight training at Pensacola, Florida, and was assigned to duty in Viet Nam in March 1968. His tour of duty was up in April, and he was to be married this month to Mary Anne McIntyre, of Cape Coral, Florida, an Army Nurse, who is just back from serving in Viet Nam.
Lt Ford is the holder of 29 Air Medals and was awarded the Distinguished Flying Cross last December.
In addition to his mother and fiancée, Lt Ford is survived by two sisters, Glenda and Gayle, and his grandmother, Myrtle Morris.
Funeral arrangements will be completed by the Lents Funeral Home, pending arrival of the body from Viet Nam.

MICHAEL McDANIEL
FORMER WMHS SWIMMER
NANKIN BOY, 19, DIES IN NAVY PLANE CRASH
Mike McDaniel, former Wayne Memorial High School Varsity Swimmer, was killed in Alaska Friday, December 4, 1964, when an anti-submarine Navy Patrol plane crashed into a mountain.
McDaniel, a Navy Radio Operator, was the son of Mr & Mrs Arthur McDaniel, of 4503 Coolidge, Nankin.
He was one of 12 Navy men who were killed in the crash near Cape Newenham, some 250 miles northwest of Kodiak.
Navy spokesmen said the plane apparently crashed into a mountain in heavy fog. It had taken off from Kodiak on a coastal air patrol.
McDaniel,, 19, a 1963 graduate of WMHS, had been in the service for 16 months.
A diver for WMHS, he received his Varsity letter for competing in swimming his sophomore, junior and senior years.
Terry Byrnes, who was McDaniel's coach, said he and the youth's former teammates felt a "tremendous loss". He said McDaniel was "well liked and respected".
McDaniel is survived by his parents, a sister Kathleen and a brother, James.
Funeral arrangements, being conducted at Uht Memorial Funeral Home, were incomplete at deadline time.
