Former Obama pastor to speak Sunday in Detroit
Detroit Free Press, April 25, 2008
Wright, who would not grant the Free Press an interview for this report, has canceled speaking engagements and made few appearances since snippets of his preaching began circulating on YouTube and cable news stations in March.
Sermons -- including one that suggests the Sept. 11, 2001, terrorist attacks were karma for America's indiscretions -- have elicited claims that Wright is, at best, a nut job, and at worst, a hate-monger.
"I consider the Rev. Jeremiah Wright a racist -- a true racist," said Bob Harden, 67, of Canton. "As an American veteran, I took offense to his comments. He preaches hate, and I find him unpatriotic. For a minister to use that kind of foul language is a disgrace to all Christian people."
